Are doors and windows custom made?

Answer

Yes. At Oakridge, we custom make every order so we create exactly what you want. Or you can design your own – our experienced on-site engineers can design almost anything. If you are feeling inspired why not design your own? Give us your idea in any form you like, and we will make it a reality.

What woods are available?

Answer

Our main wood is Douglas Fir, but we can use many other types including Accoya, Maple, Oak, Walnut or Western Red Cedar. Or you can request wood types providing they are durable and available as well as ‘environmentally friendly wood’ sourced from an environmentally friendly and socially beneficial scheme.

Do you offer British Columbia wood?

Answer

Douglas Fir, Cedar, and can both be used.

Do you produce aluminium windows?

Answer

No. Wood is a renewable resource and therefore sustainable. It does not require the mining of our limited precious minerals or the huge energy that is needed, to produce some of the other materials on the market today. If you require Aluminum Clad or Vinyl windows, give us a call or email and we can help you find a supplier.

Where does the wood come from?

Answer

We use wood that has been sourced from managed and sustainable forests. The material for any wood product we make, is thoughtfully selected, and nurtured, to protect the well-being and future of our natural environment. The manufacturing process for producing our wood windows and doors is gentle on the environment. It does not require the mining of our limited precious minerals or the huge energy that is needed, to produce some of the other man-made materials on the market today.

Are windows & doors made in British Columbia to Canadian standards?

Answer

Our timber windows and wood doors are Canadian made to Canadian standards. Our windows and doors are certified to the highest Canadian Standards for your safety. It is our policy ensure our windows and doors to suit the water penetration resistance and structural requirements (on some occasions this is not always possible with unusual architectural designs). Products that have passed strict testing requirements prove our high quality construction methods and weather sealing systems effectively exclude wind and rain.

How do we decide which glass to select for energy efficient windows?

Answer

The size, orientation, glazing treatment and internal coverings of your windows all have a significant impact on the energy efficiency and comfort of your home. For a typically insulated house, the windows provide the greatest opportunity for heat gain or loss, and can account for up to 40% of energy losses. Yes. Most of our windows and doors can be screened. Ask about our range of systems to suit your needs.

What is the difference between a pivot and hinged door?

Answer

Pivot doors are fast becoming a popular modern alternative to the hinged door. Pivot bearings replace conventional hinges to open up new and exciting design possibilities. With self-closing and hold open functions, these top quality pivots can handle the weight of an impressive over-sized door with ease and safety. Pivot doors are not suitable for exposed situations.

What windows are best for maximum ventilation?

Answer

Awning and casement windows all offer good ventilation.
